I think one of the scariest things I’m learning (because it still hasn’t fully sunk in) is that the fence belongs to the devil. Don’t worry I’m going to explain what the fence is in a bit. You know when you are neither here nor there, neither hot nor cold. I think the first time I heard that word was in class four or well the first time that I remember. We were asked a question in class and it was a yes or no, true or false, one or two kind of question and so the teacher was going round and student by student picked one of the two and then it got to this boy and he said ‘I’m on the fence’. I remember turning to look at him like “that wasn’t an option? What does that even mean?” the teacher just told him she’d get back to him and continued with the rest of the class. In my memory right now she didn’t get back to him.
Oh my! The Holy Spirit is teachinggggg!! Lol she left him on that fence. It’s almost like his fence was a part of one of the sides so she didn’t need clarification. It was from then that saying I’m on the fence grew common to me. I started hearing it more and more and for some teachers and people it was acceptable to be undecided, acceptable to be in that grey zone. Not having decided where you want to be yet was okay.
Subconsciously, I think the devil was planting seeds in our minds and in our lives because we grew up with that notion that the fence was also a choice. It was also an option. Why? BECAUSE THE FENCE IS HIS! Boy, there are so many ‘innocent’ things we pick up in the world; school, media , society that we need to renew our minds about and we need to lift up the standard of God against. Anyway, so a couple of years ago I read a story on another blogger’s Instagram and that left me shook. I believe I took a screenshot so I’d insert it below.
Okay so I found it. I saw this and I was so shook for words. The fence belongs to me he said. Most of us do life believing there is a third option. There is God’s way, there is the devil’s way and there is your way or that there is ‘undecided.’ Hehe darling, that third zone is the devil’s. Your ‘self’ decisions do not exist. You are either with God or with the devil. The undecided zone doesn’t exist, it’s the devil’s place. Let me just add that the partly here thing is also the fence that God doesn’t own. So the theme song from Hannah Montana just flooded my head just now. It says:
“You get the best of both worlds
Chill it out, take it slow
Then you rock out the show
You get the best of both worlds
Mix it all together
And you know that it’s the best of both worlds”
Just look at that. This is legit the anthem of our generation. Most of us believe we can fulfill both places. We can have the best of both worlds or well enjoy it till we are ready. I am only realizing that’s as dumb as ticking both boxes for male/female or single/married. How can you be both?! Yeah yeah the world says that’s okay but it’s stupid. Most of us believe we can dedicate our 10% tithes, our Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings to God and then satisfy the world on the other days and it’s okay because nobody gets hurt. I mean I’m paying my dues.
I was reading the story of Solomon and wondering how he had a bastard for a child (we’d talk about it soon) and then a scripture just hit me so hard. And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.- 1 kings 11:6 Erm did it say Solomon did evil in Gods sight because HE WENT NOT FULLY AFTER THE LORD? Is it saying that our one foot in , one foot out is evil in God’s sight? That He doesn’t give us some credit because at least He’s in the mix in there somewhere? That sometimes we give Him a portion of our lives, of our attention? God was saying your half surrender is no surrender to Him at all. In fact He’ll spew you out because that lukewarmness belongs to the devil.
“ So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” -Revelation 3:16.”
Have you wondered why the devil doesn’t caution you about the fence, about being lukewarm like God does? Because it’s his zone. God prefers that you are fully cold, living large in the world because that’s who He sent His son for anyway. But for us, who can’t make up our minds, that think we can get the best of both worlds, we are the ones that disgust Him. Yes disgust! It’s mostly when something is disgusting or bad for our stomachs we spue vomit, or? The world is training us to love the fence. I mean if it belongs to their ruler, of course it will. You can be indecisive to what gender you are, you can be a side chick/boy where you are committed halfly in enough to reap the benefits but also not in enough for it to demand all of you. You can be in the middle until you are ready to pick a side.
What’s funny is that right here is a self-righteous person reading this post outside of themselves like “this doesn’t apply to me”. Maybe listing a few names of lukewarmers and fence seaters in their head. I know this because that would have been me reading this post before. Luke-who? Missed me here boo boo Can’t be me… Umm but it can. It really can and you really shouldn’t miss the chance for the Holy Spirit to minister to you thinking you aren’t included.
Beloved I know this walk seems like a tough road, a long road or even a boring one. it seems like you are leaving behind ‘amazing’ things and that you will seem weird to the world and people that you used to fellowship with. Jesus was seen as weird, Abraham, Moses, Noah, Job were all seen as weird so we are in a good crowd. Listen, there is no life outside of Christ. There is no truth and no joy so there can’t even be enJOYment. It’s all a lie and all a facade to prevent you from experiencing the truth that leads you into life; real life! I’m pretty sure it looks like you are doing well. I mean the struggle isn’t too real on your side but what are you comparing it to? You most definitely haven’t scraped on the level God will have you and most definitely won’t be fulfilled outside of God.
That fence you sit on will not stand forever. I know that it looks normal, comfortable, exciting because there are a lot of us (believers) right there next to you but I’m here to remind you that the fence is the devil’s. Sin isn’t called sin because of who is doing it, it’s called sin when weighed with the standards of God. The number of Christians doing it and living it doesn’t change the fact that it’s unwanted in the kingdom. Know that your indecision IS a decision. Half commitment is still evil in the sight of God and He does nothing with fence-benchers. Remember that the fence is the devil’s.
