Guess who’s bacccccck!!!!!
So I had a very interesting conversation with the Holy Spirit recently. I’m not sure how we landed on this topic but I’m glad we did. It blew my mind and had me realize even more that Christianity and this walk isn’t difficult, it’s just so different from the world we are full of! It’s a struggle simply because His ways, thoughts, definitions, principles are so different from the world’s. It also made me realize why there is a need for us as Christians to go louder in speaking about God and His ways. We are being caved in by the world and their standards that, everything in God’s agenda seems difficult or weird and sometimes even stupid.
“Christianity and this walk isn’t difficult, it’s just so different from the world we are full of! It’s a struggle simply because His ways, thoughts, definitions, principles are so different from the world’s”
As always, before I get carried away and be the kasapole that I’ve always been let me get into what this post in particular is about… SETTLING! Today I’m talking about settling. It’s a term we use a lot or hear a lot. ‘ I’m not settling for just anybody, I know my worth’ ‘oh she just settled for him because she was tired of being single’ ‘ He just settled for the job because he had been unemployed for a while’ ‘ I just settled on this because I didn’t find what I wanted’
So I asked a bunch of my friends what they thought about settling and their answers were brilliant! Just like me, they also believed that settling is basically being basic when you’re built to be extraordinary. It’s believing you could never hit the sky so you lay low on the dust. It’s when fear makes you believe this is where you are good at, where you belong, how far you can go so you just sit there. So yah settling is being ordinary and being okay with ordinary. Settling is when you downgrade!
Settling was Abraham ‘knowing’ Haggai and giving birth to Ishmael. “ God couldn’t possibly give Sarah a child. I mean have you seen how old she is? Her breast milk will probably be in powder form. So you know let me just find somewhere that is more realistic because if you think of it properly, God said I’d make you a father of many nations. He didn’t say with whom?” It was right then I knew that most times trying to apply logic to the ways of God could land you in trouble. Settling is the demonic belief you can’t do better so you’d take what is at hand.
“What if I told you settling is when you shift lanes from the Will of God regardless what direction you are headed.”
All this is very true but the Holy Spirit made me realize that there is a flip side to settling we never address. We never look at it because it beats logic and the whole understanding the world has made and sealed settling to be. What if I told you that settling isn’t just when you downgrade but that sometimes we settle in an upgrade. We could settle with getting or being something or being at a place that we never imagined having or being or doing. If you are like ‘huh’, you are exactly where I was when He told me too. What if I told you that Abraham settled, not because He went in for a mere maid but because he stepped out of the will of God. What if I told you settling is when you shift lanes from the Will of God regardless what direction you are headed. What if I told you settling is simply not heeding to the voice of the spirit to know the direction to take.
Gosh!!! how I wish I recorded a video for this because I have so much to say. Most of us think settling and think downgrade but some of us miss the will of God with our ‘upgrade’. Sometimes you can leave your low salary paying job for one where the pay blows your socks off and miss the will of God. Sometimes you may land the hottest, smartest guy/babe in the world or even the most spiritual but that could be you settling because you may have missed the Will of God for your life. Sometimes God needs you at that ‘downgrade’ for His purpose and for His glory. He needs you to be a servant at Potiphar’s house, He needs you to be born in a manger, born to a carpenter. Sometimes He needs you to be at that struggle point not because you don’t deserve ‘better’ but because better is right where you are for that moment or for what you’ve been called for!
Most of us think settling and think downgrade but some of us miss the will of God with our ‘upgrade’
Settling for me is anything outside of Gods will. Like my dad would say the devil will finance you to have you stay out of the will of God. He will make sure you have everything you want or well think you want, everything you think you are ‘worth’ if it keeps you off God’s course.
Let me give you an example using my own experience. For national service, I was placed in a private company. I met with the HR, was told how much we’d be paid and my mind immediately went to the gazillion and 33 places I could have gotten a better deal at. I knew a place where I’d be making more, no transport fare, no lunch cost, I’d be on the road to doing what I love but I had zero peace! In that moment who cares about peace when you are 22, fresh out of school and have a 4 figure amount entering your account every month hehehe. However, there was something about this place (offering less). The moment I walked in there my heart was content. I knew I was home, I just belonged. I prayed about it and I was overwhelmed with peace. God needed me there, I didn’t know why at that moment but I knew God led me there and to be honest, there would not be an August crusader without that place and the people I met there. Settling for me would have been taking that other juicier offer. In less than a year, God showed me physically how that offer would have messed me up.
Another example would have been from one of my favourite stories in the Bible… the story of Jacob, Leah and Rachel. Where Jacob settled for Rachel. Nope, you didn’t read it wrong and I didn’t make a mistake. I really meant Rachel hehe but I want to pick that up when I’m talking about Jacob later so I’m just going to leave it at that and have you asking questions and thinking deep lol
So ‘settling’ for you like it’s becoming for me should be where God is not! No matter the height or the depth. No matter how it looks or not, sometimes God will have you in the penthouse but sometimes he’d have you in the corner of a half bedroom house (if there is something like that) for what He wants to do with you for a particular season or for your entire journey but trust Him, trust the process, trust HIS TIMING and trust His journey. Also, make sure to be led by the Spirit, the devil also speaks, also offers things that look seemingly good. Remember that you can be settling being way at the top, settling being on the bottom and anywhere in between. Settling for you should become whatever takes you out of the will of God for your life. Settling for you should be where the peace and joy of the Lord cannot be found. Settling for you shouldn’t be being denied of what you think you deserve but rather being denied of what God knows you need.
Until next time, stay blessed
