Today I’m here for all the people who didn’t have ‘dramatic’ transformations into the Kingdom of life and of light. For us, that didn’t almost die or didn’t break free from addiction or didn’t have any ‘bad scores’. Today I’m here to tell you that your salvation is still valid and relevant. I know that sometimes you question it, sometimes you wonder, if you really drank from the world maybe you’d understand the Christian walk properly or you would believe in the things of God properly.
I know you were ‘good’ all your life so you sometimes don’t feel completely changed. For the longest time, anytime a pastor said “ remember when you first found Christ, remember when you broke away from all those addictions, remember when God set you free from the clutches of the devil” I would roll my eyes. I mean I couldn’t relate, I had been ‘good’ the whole time or well so i thought. I just made a personal choice to come to Christ and that was it. Sometimes I questioned if I was truly Christian because I didn’t have a dramatic turn around. I mean people would give testimonies about being an addict or being depressed, suicidal, being on their deathbed, surviving an accident and all I could say was “oh I was worshipping God in a song in my dorm during my senior year when all of a sudden I felt the emptiness and realized I needed more than just playing church.” I mean YAWN! right? I can’t be the only one who has at some point felt like their salvation story wasn’t dramatic or life turning enough to be authentic. So again I say I wrote this post for all of us, to tell you and remind myself that our salvation is relevant regardless and to prove to you why it is.
First and foremost, for those who have me on WhatsApp and on the various social media platforms you’d have probably seen me talk about the difference between Sin and sins. If not, do not worry I’m walking us through it again. So firstly, salvation isn’t saving you from your sins; lying, stealing, fornication, addictions and the rest. No no no salvation was saving you from “death”. It was saving your soul from the kingdom of darkness. Jesus came to save us from Sin; a Nature we bore because of one man’s (Adam’s) disobedience. Jesus came to restore us to the Father and make us alive again. So regardless of whether you smoked, abused drugs, lied, cheated, killed, stole or you were an almost ‘saint’ like I used to believe I was, we were all sinners and in dire need of Jesus. If sin was only the deeds we did then why does scripture call newborns sinners? they haven’t done anything yet. Jesus came to deliver us from that nature we inherited because of Adam and restore us to God. Becoming righteous is therefore adopting a new nature; God’s nature that then affords us a relationship with Him which we lost when Adam fell. This new adopted nature then allows us to go to God in fellowship so that we can bring to pass His Will here on earth.
“ A man who is dead (a fallen man) would stink. Sins(lying, stealing…) are the stench of a dead man but it’s not the stench that killed him right? You didn’t ‘die’ (get disconnected from the Holy Spirit) because you stank (sinned). You rather stank/sinned ( lie, steal, cheat) because you are dead (disconnected from the Holy Spirit)”
Dear Christian your salvation is valid because Christ came to save us from sin; the NATURE we inherited from Adam’s disobedience and not to save us from the WORKS (deadworks) that were born out of being his descendant. (Hope I’m making some sense) So regardless of what you did or didn’t do, you needed salvation. Don’t let anyone’s story or don’t cause yourself to be deceived that you will lack a certain depth in Christianity because you didn’t do much and didn’t have much of a turn around.
HOWEVER, do not be fooled into thinking your ‘goodness’ affords you any advantage over someone who really ‘dirtied’ themselves in the world. Do not be fooled into thinking that you earn some extra points of some sort because you don’t really have much of a dirty past. Please! Please and please do not tread on those grounds. You are most likely going to find yourself walking in self-righteousness, believing that you earned your righteousness. That you deserve a,b,c more than the next because you didn’t do x,y,z. Do not be fooled to think that God would favour you over someone because you didn’t do somethings before you were born again. Listen, at the point of being born again, we are ALL given a clean slate. We are all starting from the same point. Good for you truly that you stayed away from certain things alright, you’ve saved yourself from some things so yeah a little snapping of fingers to you but please do not make yourself believe that, that somewhat puts you in some lead when you come to Christ.
Listen, at the point of being born again, we are ALL given a clean slate.
ALSO, Don’t be fooled to think you can apply some of your ‘good’ knowledge from before Christ, in the kingdom of God. I keep putting good in quotes because there is no good outside of God. I know I know it would take you a while to get this because in your head you can name at least 10 people that aren’t Christians but are ‘good’. Hehe Beloved, all good is born from the Lord. I’m sorry I don’t care what it looks like, what it sounds like, if it’s not from the Lord, it can’t be good! Let me remind you of Eve in Genesis 3:6 she saw that fruit; yes the same one God had instructed them not to touch, she looked at that same fruit and saw that it was ‘good’. The devil is still playing that game with us now, so we can look at a person or a thing in the world and somehow find ‘good’ in them. It’s all deception. The devil has no truth in him, has no love in him yet somehow the subjects in the kingdom he’s lord over can exhibit love, truth and goodness? How? God is love, God is good. For anything to be loving and good, they must bear His Spirit.
So yeah! Don’t be fooled into thinking you can apply the things you picked up from the world in this kingdom. Your definitions, ideas, practices, dealings must all align to the knowledge and the will of God. If you used to be a giver, you have to still renew your mind concerning giving, renew your mind concerning any ‘truth’ you carried from the world. Your relationships (of all kinds- family, friends, lovers) when you were in the world weren’t bad so as a Christian you believe you can continue building relationships with that same mindset. No please, no matter how sane or logical some of the things you used to do before you got born again looks, I plead with you to surrender them to God and have the Holy Spirit walk you through how God builds those relationships. Trust me, it would amaze you the errors and the dangers you were blinded to. There were and are some things that seem innocent to you but if the Holy Spirit is convicting you about it now, don’t fight it, understand that, at this particular stage of your growth, it serves you no purpose.
So today I came to talk to anyone who thought like me, to let you know that your salvation is still valid even if you weren’t sinking waist deep in the world. You still carried the nature of sin, so as boring as your story may be, it’s still valid. I also came to talk to those who are quick to list the number of things they did and do right anytime they go through low times. Who fail to recognize that it’s Grace and Mercy that has brought us thus far. And I came today to tell you that no matter how harmless your time in the world seemed, you need to unlearn everything you thought you knew by surrendering them to God and starting afresh in Christ.
Amen & Stay blessed!
