Exodus 3:13-14 KJV And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. …
I remember in Sunday school when they would read this story, I would be so confused. What did He mean by ‘I Am’? How would they understand?, I put myself in the shoes (lol yeah, they were slaves, probably didn’t have shoes but you get it right? Hehe) of the Israelites and imagined this Egyptian traitor standing in front of me saying, ‘I’ve been sent to you by I AM’. I would roll my eyes (it’s all i could do, the man killed someone, i wasn’t about to go fight with him) and go back to the work I’m doing. If I’m going to risk going against the Egyptian masters, risk being caught, it won’t be because of a nameless someone. Someone I haven’t heard before. I mean, don’t come waste my time!
I also wondered why Moses had to ask God what to say, why wasn’t ‘the God of your fathers’ enough? Growing up, when this scripture was read, no matter how much I reread it, it just didn’t make sense. I am? ah? The Holy Spirit was teaching me something even at that point. He was teaching me to never read the Bible as English, never as a storybook, never as my notes in my RME books. He was teaching me that without His breath over the words to give the light of revelation, I would not get the scripture. Sometimes I might understand the english I’m reading but won’t get the Godly interpretation of it and definitely wouldn’t be able to walk by the Word. For the word of God gives life when we read under the inspiration or like I like to say in recent times; under the breath of the Holy Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:5-6 KJV Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. …
So fast forward, 2017 I was laying in bed and the Holy Spirit brought this scripture to me so I opened the scripture again and read the same words, same version of the Bible yet I was mind blown!!! How did I miss that the first time? God was saying to Moses that ‘I don’t want to limit them to one side to me, I want to be whatever they NEED me to be’. I AM! When you meet them Moses… ‘I AM their rescuer, I AM He who is there to take them from Egypt. When I’m sending the plague unto Egypt, I AM their savior and protector. When they are in the wilderness with no food, I AM their provider. When they come in face with beasts and giants, I AM their strength and deliverer’.
I recently had a conversation with a sister who had just watched the shack ( its a must see, well to me) and I remembered that people had a problem with God being portrayed as female. When I saw God as a woman myself I was a little annoyed and maybe i still am unsettled about but I realized that Mack (the main character) at the beginning didn’t need the mighty and fearless character of a Father but the soothing and tender warmth of a mother because He was hurting. Later on in the movie, He was introduced to God as a man; a Father because that particular journey demanded the strength and character of a father. I’m so not about that gender argument regarding God because God is God and thats it! I’m just using that situation in the movie to address that there are different sides to God and they are revealed to us in the different chapters of our lives. I had heard that God is a healer, a provider, a good father, a strong tower but until i went through things that demanded those sides to Him, i really didn’t know what those attributes meant.
Beloved, God is saying that He is God! He is enough and He has no limits. He will be Whoever He believes you need Him to be in that moment in your life. He’s saying that ‘ I AM the Almighty, the creator, the savior, the redeemer, restorer, rebuilder, rewarded, provider, protector, comforter, Father...’ He is still THAT I AM today! Sometimes He would permit certain things so you see the different sides to Him. He would allow you to go through somethings so in those moments, He can reveal a side of Himself to you so You can know Him better.
” I want you to experience all of Me because to know Me is to love Me.”
He is saying “I love you and I want a pure and honest relationship with you so I’m going to show you my true colours. I want you to see all sides to me. I want you to experience all of me because to know Me is to love Me.” He’s saying ‘I AM the God of yesterday, today and tomorrow. I AM all that you will never need and more!‘
