So what at all is THE KINGDOM’S DRESS CODE???
‘Jewie you keep saying we need not to wear this and not show this, cool! well show us what the dress code based on scripture is?’
I’m sorry but i don’t have the answer to that because i haven’t found a scripture based description of how we should dress myself. I have heard Christian ladies and i have been a christian lady who thought and said that Christian women should be allowed to dress in any manner and that it’s not a reflection of one’s heart or commitment to God. After all IT IS JUST CLOTHES right??? Ermmmm NO!! its never just clothes. Yes, there is no ‘dress code’ written in scripture but there is a standard we need to be at in the way we present ourselves. You can’t say you live for Christ and your clothing says otherwise.
I read somewhere that ‘A good outfit is proper when it brings attention to your face from which the glory of God is to shine but if your clothing draws attention to your body, to outline it, to make it noticed, then it is sensual and what you are doing is wrong‘.
I couldn’t agree more, Gods original intention when He created clothing (yes He created clothing in case you forgot) was to cover up ALL of the body not just the private parts like we see in the kid’s storybook illustration of Adam and Eve. God’s intention for clothing was to draw AWAY attention from the bodies and not draw attention TOWARDS it!
“God’s intention for clothing was to draw AWAY attention from the bodies and not draw attention TOWARDS it!“
As I said in the intro of this series, dressing modestly isn’t directly about the pieces or material you cover yourself with but reveals who reigns in your heart and by whose influence you walk with. If you find yourself fighting hard on this and rebelling against the idea that there is a divine unspoken standard of clothing required of you as a young Christian lady, If you want to continue dressing as you wish regardless of what your clothes might speak of you and regardless of the negative attention you draw to yourself and your body; If you feel the need to wear those outfits that reveal cleavage or the tight pants or short skirts that outline your shape, or wear outfits that leave observers imagining more than they should then I think I can boldly say your heart is not in a good condition and the Holy Ghost isn’t Lord of your life. That is the harsh truth. I know your mind would fight this because my mind did and still does when the Holy Spirit questions me about my clothes. Regardless of how we choose to receive it; Your clothing is connected to your fellowship with the Most High. its a reflection like i keep saying of your obedience to His voice.
“The Holy Spirit would only be present where He’s made Lord.”
The Holy Ghost births holiness and if He reigns within your heart, your dealings including the way you dress would manifest His presence. Anytime we rebel against biblical principles, it is because we are not sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Ghost and that our hearts are not in a good condition. Where the Holy Spirit isn’t Lord, He isn’t there at all. We could choose to rather be our own lords of our lives and live by our own standards, then your clothing and the manner you present yourself would be only your problem but if we can boldly declare that we have been bought by Christ and we no longer live for ourselves, it should reflect in ALL we do.
So no, we don’t have a Christian uniform or a particular picture of what a Christian woman should wear, however, our clothes should scream CHRIST!!!…….DIGNITY, MODESTY, RESPECT, ATTENTIVENESS, DECENCY and CLASS. Style has evolved over the years, from generation to generation but modesty remains the same. Modesty may come in different colours and patterns and take different appearances but a modest outfit will always be modest. No matter what generation or era we are in, whichever country we are in or what the fashion industry may say, you need to make sure your clothes send a message of your heart and who reigns there. your clothing must speak of the King to whom you belong. Trust me, i know its not a one day change, it would take time, you would sometimes need to fight yourself hard on why you can’t wear something or fight on how it’s THAT revealing. Yes, it takes time but God’s grace is available to you to overcome it.
We are definitely continuing the closet buzz series and I pray that by the end of it, both you and I would fully understand why we need to dress modestly and why we need to part ways with some clothing or the manner we present ourselves. We are not only called to witness to the world but BE witnesses of Christ to them, it would be so hard to do so when our lifestyle is identical to theirs no? Remember, Our actions should portray Christ as loud as we expect our words to.
But ye shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall BE WITNESSES unto ME both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. – Acts 1:8
