I can’t even write or say that word with a straight face, my friends have ABUSED it. My goodness!!! (lool) anyway, I love how the Holy Spirit works, I don’t think I can say it enough. So I was texting a friend to have a lit new year and the moment the word lit popped into my head… the Holy Spirit unraveled this post to me in bits. God expects us to be lit!!! He calls us to be very well lit!! Hehe He really would love nothing more than to see all His children so LIT that the “lituation” (my friend used it recently and I just had to do same) gets others talking about how to be lit as well, all to the glory of His Holy name.
Before someone twists my words and says I said God approves of your worldly “lituation”, let me show you what I mean from scripture: In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven -Matthew 5:16. Please this is the kind of lit I mean, sorry to burst your bubble (lol). We are the light of the world, a city on the hill that can not be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts under a bushel but instead places it on a stand so all may see and glorify your Father in heaven.
BE THOU LIT!!!
My understanding of this is similar to a part of the creation story where God said let there be light because darkness was upon the face of the earth, it was without form and void. God saw that the earth needed light so things could be put in order. Similarly, God saw that the prince of darkness ruled the earth and everything he had planned and intended for the earth was being thrown away… order was being overturned. In my country, we’d say everything was *basaa* (in disorder) so He sent His only begotten son; Jesus to come on earth to show us an example of his original intention, to show us our capabilities and also to die and free us from the kingdom of darkness… to show us how to be LIT!!! Jesus became the light of the world and anyone that came to Him, followed Him and the ways of His father in Heaven also gained the light of life.
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. – John 6:12
In other words, anyone who followed Jesus became just as Lit as He is!! The Holy Spirit just brought to memory a moment back in Holy Child School during thanksgiving mass, (that’s the final mass for form threes as they leave the school) where we always at some point had candles passed around. Then a few people had their candles lighted up and passed on. I don’t know if you get the picture, one person lets her candle kiss the next person’s candle and that next person does same to another and it continues till every candle in the room is lighted up. That’s God intention with us! As you get lit when you come to Christ, don’t just be selfish and put your candle under a bushel or bowl like it says in Matthew 5 instead put it on a stand so that everyone around may see and glorify God. Aside showing forth your light, God expects us to share this light. Why be lit alone. Just like one girl shared her candle fire with the next person that should be our experience with people still in the dark. Don’t just light yours and close your eye to the next person. The only way the chapel was lighted up was from one person sharing her light to another who then did same for someone else. I pray you are getting the picture. God doesn’t expect us to be LIT all by ourselves, He wants us to extend this “litness” to the next person and it would be passed on till the whole earth gets lit to the glory of His Holy name
Okay what am I saying? God has called us to be lit! Like proper loud lit behavior (hehe). However you can’t be lit and nobody would know… the whole point of one candle being lit was so that she shared her light with the next person… I know girls are culprits of this habit, where we lie or act clueless when asked on finding something valuable. We really need to stop this! Show people where you bought your weave from or those cute slippers you have (hehehehe) anyway, you have found this good thing in Christ! You have been transferred his “Litness”… all that is required of you is to go forth and show off that light and extend your new found “lituation” to someone still seated in the dark! For how else do we expect the earth to come to order and be in form unless we command our light over it! Today I came to remind you to remove from under your bushel and place on a candlestick the light you gained when you got Christ, so that the whole room (people in your surroundings) may receive light as well.
Don’t be selfish and be lit alone, share your light with your brethren. Carry your candle and go light the world.
“For so the Lord has commanded us, ‘I HAVE PLACED YOU AS A LIGHT FOR THE GENTILES, THAT YOU MAY BRING SALVATION TO THE END OF THE EARTH.’ – Acts 13:47
