Last week Thursday I saw the tweet above and I was just blown away by the depth of such a simple tweet. I didn’t know whether to physically clap like a circus seal but that was exactly what I was doing in my head.
You see, I don’t know if it’s the way I was raised– no wait, it’s actually the way I was raised. Let me give credit to my awesome parents. I had never looked at being Christian as just a means to escape hell or to secure my seat in heaven. Right from being a kid, I understood that our journey and purpose here on earth was very important as making it to heaven was. God wasn’t only welcoming born-again believers but born-again believers who were faithful in the things He gave them, those who served, availed themselves to be molded into the image of Christ and walked after His likeness. I understood all of these pretty early yet I would still tell God to give me some time to be worldly before I start my walk. SIGH!! Don’t worry the young grew! He-he
It is the Holy Spirit who molds us into the image of Christ so we can live our lives in His life.
This tweet is so real to me and just slapped back into my head, what my parents had been trying to teach my siblings and I. The devil does believe in the existence of God.(Genesis 3:1) He believes in the Word. ( He quoted scripture- Matthew 4:6 ) He believes in Jesus Christ. (Enough to go tempt Him -Matthew 4:1 ) The devil believes that God has a purpose for us. He believes that there is heaven, He believes that God loves us,is mindful of us and has a great future for us if we stay in His will. The devil believes all of these things but he isn’t Christian… now is he? So what makes the difference? living the christ-like life, living life with the Holy Spirit as Lord! The Holy Spirit causes us to birth out this belief in God. The Holy Spirit who molds us into the image of Christ so we can live our lives in His life.
Being Christian is more than knowing things about God and His kingdom and believing in God and His kingdom. It’s more than booking your ticket for heaven. Being Christian is walking after the likeness of Christ, it’s having the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth. It is pursuing the purpose of God over everything else like your life depended on it because it does. Most of us are distracted by the things of this world. Our entire focus is on surviving therefore our entire focus is on money which we get from our jobs. Like I heard on the radio yesterday in a spoken word by Suli Breaks ‘a job, a J-O-B leaves you Just Over Broke, every single month.‘ The devil knows once he has us locked down with the dreams the world through media sells us, of being fulfilled by driving sport cars, sipping champagne on a yacht, building mansions, We wouldn’t care about this thing called purpose. No,I’m not saying your job is automatically a distraction from purpose, I’m not saying quit your job either but the love for money and the power it brings through the job might just be. Some of us want to start our walk in purpose after we’ve gotten ‘comfortable’. News flash love, the devil is never going to let you get there, he’d keep you wanting more and more.

Your purpose is your whole reason for your existence here on earth so if you don’t fulfill it then you abused your whole life. Abuse means to use something or someone abnormally. It’s the abnormal use of a person, thing or situation. My dad would say “Abuse is not about maltreatment or ill treatment but the use of a thing outside what it’s was intended for”. That being said having sex before or outside of marriage is abuse. Most of us think of abuse and think of struggle, screaming and maltreatment but abuse comes in the very thing we think we enjoy. Sex was made by God for marriage. The normal use of sex should then be found in marriage so an abnormal use of the thing God created purposely for marriage is to have it before or outside of marriage. This is not the direction I’m headed today but the Holy Spirit deemed it necessary for me to chip this in here.
As I was typing earlier the Holy Spirit asked me a question ” To believe in God means to believe He’s a creator and to believe you were created right? How then can you believe there is a Creator and a Creation yet no specific reason for the creation?” My response was ‘oh I believe there is reason for my creation’ to which He replied ‘No you don’t, there is no way you can truly believe that you were created for a reason and not focus your days into finding what that is and actually doing it‘. If you didn’t already guess, that response silenced me. He brought to my memory a time back in university when I had a grade mix up. He reminded me that I believed that it wasn’t my grade and that belief drove me to go to my lecturer to relook at my result slip. Belief drives! Your belief in God who is The Creator should drive you to chase after purpose.
“Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”- Genesis 1:26
Still think we are Christians just to go back home to heaven? Let’s throw it back to the beginning. Yes genesis where it all begun. God said in the verse 26 of chapter one; “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness”. Jesus came to save us and restore us to what God had initially intended for us to be like and walk in. Jesus Christ came to be a model of the man God intended us to be. A man in His image and after His likeness. Like Daniel Kolenda said “If you want to know the will of God, look at Jesus – He is the ultimate expression of the Father’s will.” Jesus Christ didn’t come on earth to just go back to heaven, He came to fulfill purpose! He came to do the very thing He was sent here for. His journey wasn’t just about going back home. His journey was about speaking the words of His father, about doing good, about putting His Gifts to work and finally about dying on the cross and resurrecting on the third day. He was excited about returning home I’m sure (I mean did you see what they were making Him wear, eat… sleep? lol ) but beyond returning home was His quest to fulfill purpose. That should be ours too! When they say Jesus LIVED and died its not because He existed and got by but because He walked in purpose!
“If you want to know the will of God, look at Jesus – He is the ultimate expression of the Father’s will.”- Daniel Kolenda
Oh dear! I told myself I won’t be a kasapole on this post but who was I kidding? Today I was sent to remind you and remind myself too of the fact that being a Christian is way beyond simply believing in God and His kingdom, it’s about living the Christ-like life on our journey of purpose. Don’t get distracted! Don’t put it off for later because later might never come. Stay woke and be vigilant of the devices of the enemy! Until next week, stay blessed 🙂
